Chugwater?

Chugwater, Wyoming, is a very small town of around 250 people tucked up next to I-25 about 45 miles north of Cheyenne, Wy. On the surface it may seem like a strange place to run a web hosting / contract administration and software development company, but surface impressions can sometimes be deceiving.

In addition to the personal benefits -- my father is from this area and my great-great grandfather homesteaded near here before Wyoming was even a state -- there are great family benefits to a place like Chugwater. It is a closeknit community where everyone really does know everyone, where family is important, and where a person doesn't have to be worried about one's kids playing in the park or walking down to the Soda Fountain to get a root beer float on a hot July day.

Finally, this sort of low overhead technology based business is exactly the kind of business that Wyoming needs. It doesn't require large buildings; it doesn't use significant water, power, or land resources; it doesn't take a lot of people. It does leverage ubiqitous Internet technologies and the growing power of distance collaboration tools to bridge physical distances, and this is what makes it practical to live in a place like Chugwater while working in a business like this.
