Iowa
NOTICE: This site is OLD. The docs are still somewhat relevant, but the actual home is now http://iowa.swiftcore.org.
Welcome to Iowa's home on the web. Here you will find a growing tutorial and API reference for Iowa, an object based framework for developing both web applications and dynamic web content using the Ruby programming language. The tutorial includes live demos of many of the code items and concepts presented. Also, just for reference, this entire web site is in fact implemented under Iowa, using reusable components wherever possible (such as for the header, left navigation area, and footer).
The tutorial assumes some knowledge of traditional web/HTML/cgi programming, as well as a familiarity with Ruby. The tutorial is written for at least version 0.9.1 of Iowa. Most of the tutorial will be applicable to earlier versions, but there are some newly documented capabilities that were not availabe in those earlier versions.
The Iowa package itself can be downloaded at http://rubyforge.org/projects/iowa.
New: There is an IRC channel for disucssing IOWA. It is located at #IOWA on freenode.net.
New: At the bottom of each page in the Iowa section is a link that you may use to submit any comments or suggestions that you may have. Please do not hesitate to use it if you have anything at all to say. Your feedback will help me make this a better piece of software and a better online resource to learn about it.
